HOW TO MAKE TWO OUTFITS OUT OF ONE, 2014 (photo: Angelica Kroeger)

HOW TO MAKE TWO OUTFITS OUT OF ONE is a performance piece inspired by the life and work of Franco-American artist, socialite and feminist Niki de Saint Phalle. Created and performed by Dickson & Chalmers, with sound composition by Jane Dickson and text written by Nic Chalmers, the work was performed at Battersea Arts Centre in 2014 following a week-long research and development residency.

Selected excerpts of the performance text: it isn’t appropriate to paint the fig leaves on the school statues red; the bonnie and clyde of the art world; everything exploding and the end of the world and; after rage comes sorrow; and she is a rattling grinding cathedral.

Commissioned by SPILL National Platform 2011, ALL ERASABLE is a multimedia performance about the act of self-erasure. Written & directed by Nic Chalmers. Performed by Nic Chalmers & Katie Murtagh with original live music by Jane Dickson.

Selected extracts of the performance text: thick with the milk-skin of gasping fiction; and whole skyscrapers of shuddering sound.
